The Association for the Study of Peak Oil & Gas USA (ASPO-USA) was founded in response to emerging evidence that the history of the Oil Age is reaching a critical point, where world oil supplies, facing increasing physical, economic, and geopolitical constraints may not keep pace with rising global demand, and subsequently begin an overall decline. Experts and leaders from a wide variety of disciplines concerned with this unprecedented development formed ASPO-USA to provide a forum to exchange information and better understand this monumental and complex issue.
ASPO-USA was formed as a non-profit, tax-exempt 501 (c)(3) educational organization in 2005. ASPO-USA was inspired by ASPO International, a separate but informally affiliated Europe-based organization first organized in 2000. ASPO-USA has hosted a series of highly acclaimed conferences each year since its inception: Denver (2005), Boston (2006), Houston (2007), Sacramento (2008), Denver (2009), Washington, D.C. (2010, 2011), Austin (2012).
